Heavenly Music Rock Opera Premiere
Heavenly Music — My Rock Opera at Hunter College - May 9, 7pm
On May 9, my original rock opera “Heavenly Music” will be performed at Hunter College. This project has lived inside me for a long time — as music, as stories, as emotions, and as a deep desire to share something meaningful with the world.
“Heavenly Music” is not just a performance. It is a journey through memory, family, loss, hope, and faith. It is about the invisible threads that connect generations, mothers and daughters, fathers and children, people and their homeland, people and their dreams. The music carries voices of war, love, childhood, and healing. Some songs are joyful, some are painful, and some are filled with quiet prayer.
As a composer and teacher, I have always believed that music is more than notes on a page. Music is a language of the soul. It allows us to say what cannot be spoken. In this rock opera, I tried to honor that truth
Writing this work while balancing motherhood, graduate studies, teaching, and everyday responsibilities has not been easy. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and fear. But there was also persistence. Every day, I wrote. Every day, I listened to the music inside me. Step by step, song by song, the opera came to life.
“Heavenly Music” includes a variety of styles — from lyrical ballads and gospel-inspired pieces to dramatic ensemble songs and contemporary rock influences. Each character has a voice, and each voice tells a story. Together, they form a musical tapestry about resilience and the human spirit.
Performing this work at Hunter College is deeply meaningful to me. It represents courage - the courage to create original music, to stand on stage, and to share something personal with an audience. It is also a reminder that dreams do not have an expiration date. They grow when we keep working, keep believing, and keep showing up.
I invite everyone to experience this performance not only as entertainment, but as a moment of connection. Music has the power to bring people together, to comfort, to inspire, and to heal. That is the heart of “Heavenly Music.”
Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey — musicians, students, friends, family, and all who believe in the power of art.
With gratitude and hope,
Margarita
